The area of Sedhiou has been scarred and weakened by the constant blows caused by conflicts like the Casamance conflicts. The objective behind the Peace Pavilion is to commemorate and rebuild. As a result, we chose rejuvenation as a concept, which means to restore to youthful vigor. Through this Pavilion we are hoping to bring the area back to life and make it rise from its ashes. However, to rise it is essential at first to heal from the wounds of the past, make peace with it and remember it as a lesson. This is why we put the spreading awareness space in the middle of our project where old documents and pictures of the conflict will be exposed but also where the Griot Jeli will tell stories about the history of the area surrounded by its people and make sure that no one ever forgets the result of violence and war and the benefits of peace. From this focal point the population will spread their wings toward a brighter future. Wings that represent the means that will make them rise.

Plan developement
The first mean or principle is their culture and local art and craft that will be exposed in the exhibition space, and will encourage the young artists of the population to express themselves. The second mean is harmony and peace and unity through a contemplation space, open to every ethnicity and religion that will assure inner peace but also a mutual respect and tolerance within this diverse population. This idea of ascension is also represented in the volume of the pavilion. The main entrance is located in the exhibition space and the deeper we venture inside the pavilion the higher the ceiling gets, describing the road toward progress. This slope can also help collect rain water for further use.

Moreover, in order for the population to rise spiritually, it is essential to provide to its material needs also. Most of the population drinks non purified water, which causes them illnesses. The pavilion being close to the Casamance river, it is possible to put in place a drinking fountain with the river’s water, after purification. In addition to that purified water and collected rain water will serve to cultivate a small agricultural field were the local vegetables are cultivated, to stimulate the agricultural activities.
